Flint will pay cop $300K in bias suit

The Flint City Beat blog reports that a police officer will get more than $300,000 in damages and attorney fees after he and dozens of other officers sued the city when Mayor Don Williamson formed the Citizens Service Bureau, a special unit of mostly black officers.

Attorney Glen Lenhoff handled Officer Keith Speer’s case. Lenhoff said the city earlier rejected a $60,000 settlement offer.

Among the claims in the suit: Williamson created the unit to deflect criticism that too few blacks and women had leadership positions in the police department.
