$65K verdict stands in correction worker’s retaliation suit against Grand Traverse County

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that U.S. District Judge Robert Holmes Bell has upheld a $65,000 jury verdict for Lisa Kirby, a former corrections employee of Grand Traverse County.

Bell denied the county’s motion for a new trial.

“Jurors rejected Kirby’s discrimination claims, but agreed she was retaliated against by then-Sheriff Scott Fewins and other top sheriff’s officials,” according to The Record-Eagle.

Kirby’s attorney, East Lansing-based Joe Abood, says he doesn’t know if the county plans to appeal.
