COA affirms Troy office shooter’s convictions

The Michigan Court of Appeals has affirmed the murder and assault convictions of Anthony LaCalamita III, who shot up a Troy office building on April 9, 2007 and was captured on I-75 after a high-speed chase.

One office worker died and two were wounded.

A unanimous COA panel rejected LaCalamita’s appeals arguments that the guilty verdict should be overturned because he was insane when the shootings occurred.

The COA also ruled that the trial court correctly refused to let LaCalamita present a surrebuttal argument after the prosecutor finished a rebuttal of LaCalamita’s closing argument.
