Local groups fight over Dream Cruise name

From Freep.com, organizers of the Woodward Dream Cruise have asked a group planning coverage of the Aug. 20 event to cease and desist from using the name “Dream Cruise” in its  DreamCruiseLive.com site.

The site is planning to provide radio coverage to be simulcast on a radio station. According to the story, the Woodward Dream Cruise has exclusive coverage deals with WOMC-FM (104.3) and WXYZ-TV (Channel 7).

The DreamCruiseLive people don’t seem like they’re just going away.

Still, the upstart broadcasters said they plan to set up a remote video and audio station at a Valvoline Instant Oil Change outlet on Woodward in Pleasant Ridge, said [Stephen] Greene, 43, a freelance videographer and part-time radio talk-show host.

“We’ve extended an olive branch to the Dream Cruise people,” said Greene of Lyon Township.

“I want to work with them within the bounds of journalism ethics, but I feel I’m publicizing their event and making it better,” Greene said Tuesday.

This morning, their site hasn’t dropped the name, but have added a can’t-miss disclaimer:
